Common faults

What Usually Goes Wrong with a Dishwasher

A dishwasher is a water inlet, a circulation pump, a drain pump and a door seal. Nearly every call is a leak, a drain problem, or dishes that come out dirty.

Water on the Floor

The door gasket, the sump seal or a hose clamp has failed. Where the water shows up is rarely where it comes from, so the unit gets pulled and tested under pressure.

Will Not Drain

The drain pump is blocked or has failed, or the air gap and the disposal connection are clogged. Standing water in the tub is the first sign.

Dishes Come Out Dirty

A blocked spray arm, a worn wash pump impeller, or a heater that never brings the water up to temperature. The cycle finishes and everything is still filmed.

Will Not Fill

The inlet valve has failed or the float switch is stuck up. The pump runs dry and the cycle times out with an error.

Door Will Not Stay Closed

The latch or the strike is worn, or the hinge cables have snapped and the door falls open. Running it that way tears the gasket next.

Cycle Stops Partway

The heater circuit, the thermistor or the control board has failed. The board halts the cycle rather than run without heat.

Loud Grinding During Wash

Glass or a bone chip is in the chopper or the pump housing. Left in, it destroys the impeller and then the seal.

Panel Dead or Lights Flashing

Water has reached the control board or the door membrane. A flashing code points at the circuit, not always at the part.

Questions

Viking Dishwasher FAQ

Answered by our dispatch team.

There is water under my dishwasher. Where is it from?

Most often the door gasket or the sump seal. We pull the unit and run it under test until the leak shows itself, rather than guessing.

The dishes come out with a film on them. Is that the machine?

Usually a blocked spray arm or water that never reaches temperature. Both are repairs, not detergent problems.

It will not drain. Can that wait?

Do not let it sit. Standing water gets into the pump seal and turns a small repair into a bigger one.

How long does a dishwasher repair take?

Most visits are finished in one trip, usually under two hours. If a part has to be ordered we set the return date before we leave.

Do you use original Viking parts?

Yes, original parts wherever they are available. If a part is discontinued we tell you what the alternative is before we fit it.

Do you have to pull the dishwasher out?

For leaks and pump work, yes. Door, latch and control repairs are done in place.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

Empty the dishwasher and clear the cabinet under the sink. Have the model number handy if you can find it.

Still have a question? Call (888) 000-0000 or book online.
