Common faults

What Usually Goes Wrong with a Wine Cooler

A wine cellar holds a narrow band of temperature and humidity behind a glass door. Nearly every call is a cooling problem, a door seal, or a fan that has given up.

Cabinet Runs Warm

The condenser is clogged, the fan has failed, or the sealed system is low on charge. The compressor runs constantly and never reaches set point.

One Zone Warm, One Cold

On dual zone models the damper, the second evaporator fan, or that zone thermistor has failed. The other half keeps working normally.

Condensation on the Glass

The door gasket is deformed or the heater in the frame has failed. Warm room air reaches the cold glass and settles there.

Compressor Will Not Start

The start relay or the capacitor has failed, or the compressor windings are open. The unit clicks every few minutes and stays warm.

Fan Runs Constantly and Loud

The evaporator fan blade is icing over or its bearings are dry. The noise rises as the ice builds.

Temperature Swings Wildly

The thermistor has drifted or the board is misreading it. The display shows a temperature the cabinet never actually holds.

Water in the Bottom of the Cabinet

The defrost drain is blocked, so meltwater collects inside instead of leaving through the tube.

Door Will Not Seal or Close

The hinges have sagged or the gasket has hardened. The unit runs constantly trying to make up for the leak.

Questions

Viking Wine Cooler FAQ

Answered by our dispatch team.

My wine cooler is not holding temperature. Is it the compressor?

Not usually. A clogged condenser, a failed fan or a drifting sensor come first. We check those before touching the sealed system.

One zone is warm and the other is fine. What is that?

On dual zone units it is normally the damper, the second fan or that zone sensor. The repair is on that half only.

There is condensation inside the glass. Is that normal?

No. It means the door seal or the frame heater has failed, and it only gets worse from there.

How long does a wine cooler repair take?

Most visits are finished in one trip, usually under two hours. If a part has to be ordered we set the return date before we leave.

Do you use original Viking parts?

Yes, original parts wherever they are available. If a part is discontinued we tell you what the alternative is before we fit it.

Do I need to take the bottles out?

Only from the shelves we need to reach. We will tell you which ones when we arrive.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

Clear the space in front of the unit and have the model number handy if you can find it. Everything else is on us.

Still have a question? Call (888) 000-0000 or book online.
